Announcements
Announcements is a company-feed style page for restaurant-wide updates - think of it as your restaurant’s internal social feed.
Who can post
Section titled “Who can post”Only Owners, Ops Managers, and Managers can post, pin, or delete announcements. Everyone else can read, react, and comment.
How to post an announcement
Section titled “How to post an announcement”- Go to Announcements.
- Click into the composer box at the top of the feed and type a title (required, up to 120 characters) and, optionally, a longer message below it (up to 2,000 characters, with a live character counter once you’re near the limit).
- Optionally add a photo using the image toggle.
- Optionally check 🚨 Urgent to flag it as urgent, or 📌 Pin to top to keep it pinned above the regular feed (urgent posts are automatically pinned too, and the Pin toggle is disabled while Urgent is checked since it’s redundant).
- Click Post.
When a new announcement is posted, every other employee at the restaurant gets a push notification.
Formatting your post
Section titled “Formatting your post”The message body supports some lightweight, automatic formatting - there’s no rich-text toolbar, you just type these patterns directly:
- Links - any text starting with
http://orhttps://is automatically turned into a clickable link. - Bullet lists - start a line with
-or•followed by a space to make it a bullet point; consecutive bulleted lines are grouped into one list. - Line breaks - preserved as you typed them, including blank lines between paragraphs.
- #hashtags and @mentions - typing
#somethingor@someonestyles it to stand out (colored, like a tag), but this is purely visual. There’s no hashtag index to browse, no user autocomplete, and tagging@someonedoes not notify them or link to their profile - if you need to get a specific person’s attention, message them directly in Team Chat instead.
Audience: who sees an announcement
Section titled “Audience: who sees an announcement”Announcements have no audience targeting - every post goes to everyone at the restaurant, restaurant-wide, regardless of branch or role. There’s no option to limit a post to a single branch, a single role, or a subset of staff, and no scheduling for a future date/time - a post goes live and notifies everyone the moment you click Post. If you need to reach only a specific branch or shift, use a shift group in Team Chat instead.
Urgent announcements posted in the last 3 days also pop up as an on-screen modal the next time an employee (other than the person who posted it) opens the app on any page - not just the Announcements page. They have to click Got it to dismiss it, which counts as acknowledging/viewing the post. If more than one urgent announcement is waiting, they’re shown one at a time - dismissing one brings up the next. This dismissal is remembered on that device (not synced across your other devices).
Managing existing posts
Section titled “Managing existing posts”Managers can open the ⋯ menu on any post to:
- Pin / Unpin it.
- Delete it (this also removes its comments and reactions).
There is currently no edit option for an already-posted announcement - to fix a mistake, delete it and post again.
How employees interact with posts
Section titled “How employees interact with posts”Anyone can, on any post:
- React with one of six emoji reactions (👍 ❤️ 🎉 👏 😂 😮) - picking a new one swaps out your previous reaction, and clicking your active one again removes it. Reaction counts are grouped and shown per emoji under the post.
- Comment, and reply to a specific comment (threaded one level deep). You can delete your own comments; managers can delete anyone’s.
- Share the post (uses your device’s native share sheet if available, otherwise copies a link) or Copy link from the ⋯ menu. Either way, the link points straight to that post - opening it scrolls to and briefly highlights the post on the feed.
- Save a post to a personal, on-this-device-only bookmark list (see the Saved filter tab). This is stored locally in your browser, not on the server, so it won’t follow you to a different device.
- See who’s seen a post - a post is automatically marked “seen” for you after it’s been visible on your screen for about 2.5 seconds, or immediately if you dismiss it via the urgent popup’s Got it button. Tapping the seen-count next to a post opens the list of names who’ve seen it.
A filter bar at the top lets you switch between All, 🚨 Urgent, 📌 Pinned, and 🔖 Saved posts. New posts from other people while you’re on the page trigger a “New posts” pill you can tap to jump back to the top and load them; older posts load automatically as you scroll down (only while the All filter is active).
Frequently asked questions
Section titled “Frequently asked questions”Why don’t I see Announcements in my navigation at all? It’s a separate feature toggle tied to your restaurant’s plan tier, with the SessionPilot team able to fine-tune it per-restaurant on top of that - there’s nothing to turn on yourself in Settings. Contact SessionPilot support (see Billing for how billing/plan questions are handled) rather than looking for a toggle in the app.
I posted an announcement but meant it for just one branch, not the whole restaurant - can I fix that? No - every announcement goes to everyone at the restaurant; there’s no per-branch or per-role targeting. Delete the post and, if you need to reach only people at one branch or shift, use a shift group in Team Chat instead.
Do @mentions in an announcement or comment notify the person I tagged?
No. @name and #tag text is only styled to look like a tag or mention - there’s no user lookup behind it and no notification is sent. To make sure a specific person sees something, message them directly in Team Chat.
Can I edit an announcement after it’s posted? No, there’s no edit option. Delete it and post a corrected version instead.
